From Learner to Volunteer

When I first got in touch with Lead Scotland I was very down and lacked confidence.  I wanted to do something with my life.  Being visually impaired was only a part of me and I wanted to get back into work.  As a learner with Lead I gained the confidence and belief that I could achieve this.  At first I did a computer course but then decided that I was capable of more, I went to University.  This was a major achievement for me and although it has been a struggle it has been very rewarding.  I always loved English at school and it was the obvious choice.  Now I am in my final year at University, I am more confident and look forward to the prospect of working again.  I am no longer a learner with Lead, I am now a volunteer.  I decided to make this transition because I felt I wanted to help others like myself.  Without the help, support and advice from Lead I would never have imagined doing a degree at University.  If I can help one person realise their ambitions and possibilities then it would be worth it.  I love volunteering with Lead, there is always plenty of support and help what ever the problem is.  I hope to carry on helping in what ever way I can even when I go back to work.
