Are you passionate about equality, inclusion, and opportunity?
Lead Scotland is looking for new Trustees to join our Board and help guide the charity through its next stage of development.
We are looking for people who share our values and want to help shape a more inclusive and equitable Scotland.
You do not need previous Board experience. We provide induction, training, and ongoing support.
Trustees play a vital role in making sure Lead Scotland is well governed, financially sustainable and delivering meaningful impact.
As a Trustee, you will work collectively with other Board members to:
Trustees are charity trustees under Scottish charity law and directors of the company.
We welcome people with a wide range of professional, personal, and lived experience.
We are particularly keen to hear from people with experience or knowledge of:
Alongside general Trustee recruitment, we are particularly interested in hearing from people who may be able to contribute experience or insight in areas such as:
We are also actively seeking an individual who can contribute financial expertise to the Board as Treasurer.
This does not involve managing the charity’s day-to-day finances. Lead Scotland has staff responsible for operational finance and financial administration.
The Treasurer role focuses on strategic financial oversight, scrutiny, and assurance. The Treasurer helps the Board oversee financial sustainability, reserves, budgeting, risk, reporting, and long-term financial planning, while supporting good governance and informed decision-making.
We would particularly welcome interest from individuals with experience in finance, accountancy, audit, budgeting, fiscal management, or risk oversight.
We are also interested in hearing from individuals who may be able to support the Board in a Company Secretary capacity.
The role focuses on supporting strong governance and helping ensure the organisation meets its legal and regulatory responsibilities as a Scottish charity and company limited by guarantee.
This may include supporting good Board processes, governance compliance, record-keeping, constitutional matters and effective administration of meetings and decision-making.
We would welcome interest from people with experience in governance, company secretarial work, legal administration, compliance, or organisational governance.
Lead Scotland works with disabled people, carers and others who may experience vulnerability, exclusion, or barriers to participation.
We are therefore keen to hear from individuals who could bring safeguarding knowledge or experience to the Board.
The Safeguarding Trustee helps provide oversight and assurance around safeguarding culture, policy, reporting, and organisational practice. This is a governance and oversight role rather than an operational safeguarding role.
Experience in areas such as safeguarding, education, social care, health, youth work, adult protection, or regulated services would be particularly valuable.
Digital inclusion is central to Lead Scotland’s work and future development.
We are keen to hear from individuals who can bring digital, technology, or innovation experience to the Board to help support the charity’s strategic development in areas such as digital inclusion, accessibility, systems, cyber resilience, data, and digital transformation.
This role is not about providing day-to-day IT support. It is about helping the Board think strategically about how technology can support accessibility, sustainability, service delivery, and organisational effectiveness.
We would particularly welcome interest from people with experience in digital services, accessibility, cyber security, data, technology leadership, or digital strategy.
The expected commitment is around 8–12 days per year. This includes:
While Lead Scotland is a national Scottish charity, most Board and committee meetings are held virtually. We therefore welcome expressions of interest from individuals based anywhere in the UK.
There are two hybrid events each year and, should you wish to attend in person, reasonable out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed.
We are looking for people who bring:
Lead Scotland is committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board that reflects the communities we serve.
We actively welcome expressions of interest from disabled people, unpaid carers, people from minority ethnic communities, LGBTQ+ people, and people with lived experience of inequality or disadvantage.
Reasonable adjustments will be made throughout the recruitment process.
